Cycle to school

Have you ever thought about cycling to school? Well Sustrans is a charity that stands for sustainable transport and they run a project called Bike It!

Bike It is a campaign to work with schools and get pupils like you to start riding your bike.

Bike It goes to local schools in Lincolnshire and runs competitions, fix it days, was the bike days, races and events.

Vince Gibson is a Bike It Officer for Lincolnshire and says kids absolutely love cycling to school. Vince says he’s working to make cycling happen everyday in 20 schools around the county.

If Bike It comes to your school the also teach pupils road safety. Vince says: “We do all sorts of exercises about negotiating obstacles.”

He also says: “the most important thing is to see and be seen.”

Cars are a big cause of air pollution and give out many gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and dirty particles from their exhausts.

These gases harm the planet by creating greenhouse gases which lead to climate change. They are also bad for our health; it can make breathing problems worse.

This is an important issue, as fewer cars on the road means cleaner air!

Everyday 27,000 car journeys in Lincolnshire are made to take children like you to school! If everyone who lived close by took a bike to school it would save 235kg of

Carbon Dioxide every day and would mean 1146 less cars would be on our roads every morning.
